Tomorrow is Chris's birthday, and I am just so thankful that this wonderful man was born 35 years ago, and ended up marrying me. Here I've compiled a few pictures to illustrate what a man of many talents he truly is... so, here's just a few of the many reasons that we love him so.

First and foremost, he is the head of our household. Goofy though he may be, he's as solid as those rocks we're sitting on there.

Chris - 14.jpg

He is also... eater of the Purple Cow... home of the most economical, yummiest combo meal around, his favorite mom & pop's fast food joint that has become a family tradition.

He's a real menace in a snowball fight...

and on a sled... *ahem* Let's just say that I really sacrificed for this pic, he was closer than he looked through the lens.

He's a full-time fan of his kids (watching T at a horse show)...

and N at his big show...

He loves his chicks...

really... he takes good care of his chicks! ;)

He's the spiritual head of our home... discipling our children in the Way.

He knows how to have a good time...

He's doesn't give up on family.

He makes really fun, cool stuff for his kids...

He tills for me (and looks really cool doing it in his combat boots)...

He bought us this really goofy dog... I always wanted a german shepherd.

He grills in the snow for his kids' birthday parties...

He's not intimidated by big projects...

He's fun to play chess with...

chess.jpg

or to just hang around watching t.v. with...

Chris.jpg

whether the show is really exciting...

S.jpg

or totally boring *yawn*...

Chris - 10.jpg

Mikey even likes hanging around with on him...

Chris - 04.jpg

And baby S thinks hanging on him is great fun... he's a great baby-wearin' Daddy.

Chris - 1.jpg

He's a great teacher...

Who finds cool stuff at work to bring home for his kids, and takes the time to notice the woundrous things right in our own front yard...

He rides go-karts...

And feeds the squirrels...

Because he's such a naturalist, and training his kids to be the same...

Chris - 11.jpg

He's not afraid of heights... and it's a good thing.

He reads to his kids every night... starting when they're young.

Chris - 19.jpg

And walks beside them every day...

Chris - 21.jpg

He gives the best bronco rides...

Chris - 15.jpg

and trains our kids in self-defense, starting young...

Chris - 09.jpg

'cause he's a skilled sniper (on ebay that is)...

Chris - 03.jpg

He has a real servant's heart...

Chris - 06.jpg

and a Settlers' passion (you'd have to have played the game to understand)...

Chris - 02.jpg

He's Dad...

Comforter...

My husband and best friend.

Oh, and he gives the best kisses too... ;)

Happy Birthday Christopher, aka Dad! We love you!

I’m BACK!

Well, we've gotten our mac set back up and it's working well again, and here I am finally writing on my blog again (I'm seeing that it's been months since I've really written anything- wow!). It turned out that the "power supply" needed to be replaced, and the guy fixing it had to wait on the part, so we were a couple of weeks without it. We actually got it back last weekend, but since my brother was here for a visit, I did not have time to blog last week at all.

We hadn't seen Daniel for a few years, so it was great to visit with him. N and T were absolutely thrilled to see him, and since their "Uncle Daniel" had lived with us during his last couple of high school years when they were younger, they have a special bond with him. We just hung out, talked (had a lot of catching up to do), played a lot of board games and watched a lot of movies. He brought us the neatest game, Settlers of Catan, check it out! It's a great, intense game of strategy and we have been having a blast with it! He says that it's he and his friends' favorite game to play.

I have so much I'd like to write about... first off, we had a great holiday... restful. I hope that all of you did as well. Thanksgiving was quiet, and so was our Hanukkah, which was extra special with our having our own little miracle, baby S, to hold in our arms this year. It's amazing to think that this time last year she was but the size of a little pea.

For those who may be wondering, no, we're not Jewish, nor are we trying to be, yet our Messiah is, and this was our ninth year remembering and celebrating Hanukkah as a family. Lisa of Following the Ancient Paths has recently written a great summary article called "Why Hanukkah?" Click here to read it. She begins,

Hanukkah is a multifaceted holiday that bears much significance for today’s Believers in Messiah. It’s one of those customs that many believers think, “Hanukkah is not part of my heritage, I am not Jewish. Why would I ever consider celebrating Hanukkah?” when in fact it is a part of our heritage as Children of the Most High if we aim to walk as our Master walked. Hanukkah is a festival that centers around themes of holiness without compromise, trusting in G-d for protection, deliverance, provision and more.

I also shared more about Hanukkah and our own celebration last year here, here, here, here and here.

I just haven't found the time to blog lately like I used to... imagine that. I will share this from my personal journal though concerning our Thanksgiving, since I never did write anything here on my blog.

My, my how the time flies... The last couple of weeks have been quiet here, and calm, with no where pressing to go since we had a holiday break from coop. Wonderful. We had a lovely time on Thanksgiving day. We played lots of board games together, and Chris had Friday off so we had a long weekend which is always nice. On Wednesday before Thanksgiving, the weather was sunny and cool, and I spent most of the day preparing a feast for our family. I'd meant to post to my blog something more last week, but that never happened. Lately, life just seems to be happening faster than I can blog about it... and many of my thoughts are too mixed up to blog anyways.

Even though it was just the five(!) of us for Thanksgiving this year, I still went out of my way to create everyone's favorite traditional dishes... I just like to make it feel special that way. We had parmesan spinach balls for N, my favorite cranberry/walnut salad- the recipe I got from Barbara, which T helped me to make this year, Chris's green bean casserole- which he and N made together, pumpernickel bread with spinach dip, crescent rolls (though this year I took the easy route and bought the canned ones, rather than making the ww ones from scratch, since I didn't have my friend Serena to help with all the baking), a huge pot of garlic mashed potatoes, turkey- of course, with gravy made from the turkey's drippings and yummy home-made pecan and pumpkin pies.

We spent much of the weekend out on the town shopping together, got Chris some new eye glasses that he's needed for a long time now. We've had quite a few gray and blustery days here, as it's getting colder, though today is just beautiful- sunny and high 50's. I've been so enjoying this lovely Fall weather, finding many moments filled with contentment as I watch the golden leaves flying across our backyard, chasing after our fat hens as they busily scamper to and fro in search of tasty morsels. I just feel so blessed in this season, this year, in countless ways... as I hold my baby girl close I am reminded of how my Lord does know the desires of my heart, and answers prayer. It's been a perfectly slow day for baking, sipping chai and writing.

Now, 2008 is just around the corner!! Wow! I wish you all the very best in this New Year! Blessings...

We had a wonderful time camping out last weekend, as we celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles/Ingathering, aka. Sukkoth, with friends new and old. We also helped our local congregation to build a little sukkah the weekend before in front of the church building where we meet at. They said that they build it there every year and leave it up for a couple of weeks to serve as a testimony for all who see it.

sukkah4.jpg

You may go here to read more about why we, as New Covenant Gentile believers in Jesus as our Messiah, Celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. Also, my dear friends Carla and Jenny have recently written lovely posts about this holy day as well, also known as Messiah's Feast, here and here.

sukkot2.jpg

A time for worshiping our King under the sukkah... this little guy was gettin' his boogey on!

sukkot6.jpg

And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

Revelation 21.3

sukkot3.jpg

...and for remembering Who is our shelter...

For in the time of trouble
He shall hide me in His pavilion;
In the secret place of His tabernacle
He shall hide me;
He shall set me high upon a rock.

Psalm 27.5

And we're just practicing, because according to the prophet Zechariah, someday soon...

And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south. And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to WORSHIP THE KING, the LORD of hosts and to KEEP THE FEAST OF TABERNCLES"

Zechariah 14.4,16

On Sept. 15, during the Days of Awe, we dedicated and blessed our baby S during our Messianic fellowship's Shabbat service, under the chuppah, which is actually a tallit (prayer shawl) right after we all sang the Sabbath Prayer of blessings over our children (the same one sang in The Fiddler on the Roof, beautiful!).

Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray, but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 19:13-14

[MOTHERS AND FATHERS]

May the Lord protect and defend you.
May He always shield you from shame.
May you come to be
In Israel a shining name.

May you be like Ruth and like David.
May you be deserving of praise.
Strengthen us, Oh Lord,
And keep us in Messiah's ways.

May God bless you and grant you long lives.
(May the Lord fulfill our Sabbath prayer for you.)
May God make you good husbands and wives.

May the Lord protect and defend you.
May the Lord preserve you from pain.
Favor them, Oh Lord, with happiness and peace.
Oh, hear our Sabbath prayer. Amen.

SavDedication.jpg

Thank you Father for our children, and for this new blessing in all our lives. Guide and direct us Lord, that we may be the parents you've called us to be. Draw our childrens' hearts to Yourself. May they follow hard after You alone. May Your hand of protection be upon this precious little life, which we offer back to You.

... and she's really real, and she's ours, to keep! ! We've all been marveling over her, so full of joy to receive her! The child that we've hoped and prayed for is now filling our home with new life and precious moments.

Yes, our darling baby girl, Savannah Abigail, was born on Tuesday, the 21st (came on her actual due date even!), at 1:03 p.m., weighing 8lbs.1/2 oz. and measuring 21.5" long. Her hair (or peach-fuzz) is strawberry blonde, leaning more towards the strawberry part... wondering if we're going to have another red head around here?!

She was delivered naturally and my hospital experience was a good one, had wonderful nurses and a great doc. I'll write more about it later, but just wanted to take a moment to quickly let you all know, and upload some pics... I'd hoped to share sooner, but haven't found time to do much besides feed myself and love my kids a bit between feedings (she wants to nurse all the time!) and naps...

We are all so thankful for this precious blessing that the Lord has added to our family. Chris's boss told him to take the rest of this week off (with pay) which has been so nice. We are relishing every moment of getting to know this little one. I am just so overcome with gratitude and emotion again and again as I hold her close, smell her and see our family interacting with and loving her.

Isn't she beautiful?!

After a couple nights of being kept awake with heavy contractions, my friend Cindy is I'm sure relieved to have finally delivered her beautiful, healthy baby girl yesterday afternoon! Congratulations Cindy and family, on the arrival of Ms. Victoria Carole, 7lbs, 4oz., 19-1/4 in.!!

Her hubby writes:

The last two nights of constant contractions finally paid off! We set out for the hospital at 5:30 this morning, and labored until around 12:45. My warrior of a wife Cindy was wearing thin after 6 hours of hard contractions, so we decided to tear the sac to speed things along. Within 10 minutes, we had our newest addition.

Cindy is an amazing woman. She delivered Victoria completely naturally, enduring some heavy, heavy contractions that made me wince with pain. And she still looks this good only an hour after delivery! God has blessed us greatly, and Victoria has a wonderful God-story of her own.

We called the kids...the boys were only mildly excited for a girl, but Olivia was overjoyed. :-)

Thanks to you all for your prayers and friendship. I'm off to ease Cindy's hunger pains (a Reuben from Poor Richards Deli).

I was so excited for her yesterday that I ended up dreaming about her and her baby last night!

Cindy, I can hardly wait to see you and your baby! You look so amazingly great in your pic, and that girl is absolutely A-DOR-ABLE! I'm delighted to hear that everything went well, and can hardly wait to hear ALL about it!!

Okay Susie, now it's your turn, and then I'm next!! ;) Oh, happy, happy days!

Well... okay, I know, I know... ALL babies are miracles really, gifts and blessings from God. But these two babies are especially special to me, because they very well could/would not have been, if not for the faith and drastic measures taken by their fathers (men among men I tell ya, to have gone "under the knife" twice!), because they have been prayed for, and hoped for, for so very long, because they represent healing (in more ways than just physically, but also emotionally and spiritually), because they represent an ever-burning hope in the miraculous, and their mothers' faith in the Lord's intentions to bless her family with life more abundantly, even when it seemed physically impossible.

vasreversalbabies2.jpg

This is a pic of my friend Cindy and I, taken week before last. We're both pregnant with our very own miracle babies, both of which were conceived after our husbands had vasectomy reversals. Chris had his vas reversal in December of 2004, and her hubby had his in April of 2006. She's due this month - June, and I'm due in August. We were just talking this morning about how great it is to see how far the Lord has brought us, and to be able to "bump bellies" now, when this time last year, her hubby was recovering from his reversal, and I was recovering from the loss of Chris and I's first reversal baby.

Another dear friend of ours, Susie (whose baby-shower is tonight!) is also pregnant and due right between Cindy and I. I wish that I had a pic of all three of us together, but I forgot to bring my camera to Cindy's baby shower, when pics of us three prego women were being taken, and have yet to even see the pics that were taken of us together there. What fun it is to share in this miracle of life, and being pregnant together! Our Lord certainly is merciful... to think how hard it would have been for me, to have gone through this season with so many friends expecting, and not been myself. I'm so thankful that He opened up my womb and allowed Chris and I to conceive another life, and for me to be healthy, and carrying her to term.

Chris and I have decided to name our miracle baby either Savannah Abigail, or Abigail Savannah... we still have to decide which we'd rather call her daily, Savannah or Abby... Either is really fine with me, but I do think it would be fun to have an "Abby and Tabby"... but in deference to Chris, I also said Savannah would be fine.. He, in deference to me, says Abigail would be fine... and so, we are in a stalemate of indecision, typical of us really! N and T may very well end up choosing which name goes first! ;)

Abigail is Hebrew for "Joy of the Father" or "Father's joy"... and of course, I cannot help but to admire the Abigail of the Bible, the wise and courageous woman who ended up marrying David, after her own husband died. Abigail is one of my favorites, my choice.

And Savannah is one of Chris's choices, his favorite, which he'd actually suggested a couple of years ago even, for if we ever had another girl. It's Spanish for... *drumroll*... "open plain" or a "treeless plain". Heehhehehe, yeah, I know, I know, not much there at first glance (another initial hurdle for me to get over before being able to *accept* it, once I'd gotten past its geographical association), but then, once we thought to put it with what I'd settled my heart on, Abigail... I got to thinking... what does a "treeless, open plain" make you think of... maybe a desolate place?... yet fertile too... Well, then I just fell in love with the whole name... because it seemed like it had come together perfectly, confirmation (name meanings are significant to me, can you tell?) if you will.

This little miracle baby is the first I shall hold in my arms after years of mourning over our hasty decision to have the vasectomy in the first place. She would not have even been if Chris hadn't had his vas reversal, and even after his reversal, it took over a year for us to even conceive our first post-vas baby, and then to lose that baby I'd dreamt of, and longed for, for years was so hard... and then also, the time of this little baby's conception, right before our baby Judah would have been born had we not lost him... strange to think of really. It certainly was an "open plain", desolate, yet fertile time in our lives together as a family. What a blessing to have received the news of our expecting a new life at that time. I just know that she is and will continue to be just that, the seed of hope, and JOY sent from our own heavenly Father, destined to be, even as we mourned, though we didn't know it yet through all those years... and she will certainly be her earthly "Father's joy" and reward, I'm sure.

Yes, I just have to say that again... She will be the "joy of her Father" in the midst of a desolate (yet in the Lord's hands and providential timing, fertile), hard place/time in our lives (in so many ways)! We have learned and gained, and still are learning and gaining so much through this season in our lives. The Lord has never forsaken us, but has grown us and worked it all together for our good, and she is evidence of that, a reminder of one of His many promises fulfilled. And I just know that this baby girl is the seed/promise of the now realized answer to a long-held and fervently offered prayer of mine, for us. Already, I cannot imagine our lives if we hadn't made the decision to welcome more children into our family. And I know that this little girl will be a blessing to us all, forever a reminding evidence of what joys will be added to us when we choose to trust our Creator... heavenly treasures.

pregnancy

*Note* Only 2.5 more months to go!! I can hardly believe it!!

My latest cravings have been for: crispy, juicy apples, bananas smothered with peanut butter, meaty sub-sandwiches-toasted with lots of mayo, pepper-jack cheese and fresh tomatoes- preferably with potatoe chips and a dill pickle on the side - for crunch (it matters!), and Hershey's milk chocolate...

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

~ Romans 8.28

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

~Hebrews 11.1-3

My Mother's Day was just lovely, wonderfully perfectly spent with my family, making precious memories. It started out with my daughter, who'd been outside bright and early, excitedly announcing to me that she had a big surprise for me. She then proudly presented from behind her back a gorgeous peonie bloom (she knows they're my favorite), the first of the season to bloom at our house even... a perfectly delicious way to start the day.

mothersday31

After laying a card down on the table for me, and telling me that I had to wait to open it, she disappeared, but before long she, N and Chris came out of our bedroom singing "Happy Mother's Day to you... " to the tune of Happy Birthday. After opening my cards and getting all teary-eyed with emotion, we all made a nice brunch together of pancakes, grits, eggs, coffee and OJ. We then decided to pack a picnic lunch to take to a local park, after first walking our dog down to the creek behind our house.

On the way down to the creek, I acquired some wildflower bouquets... how my heart took in these moments...

And, after letting Samson romp around awhile, we headed back home and then off to the park we went. It was a gorgeous day...

mothersday14

The squirrels were very friendly... liked our peanuts.

See that smile, I swear he smiled for me... when his back wasn't turned on me that is.

Chris and I lounged on the grass, while the kids played on the playground, or joined us.

Here's a pic of T and I, posing with our little bean, who's growing by leaps and bounds.

After a few hours well spent at the park, we headed home, and T talked me into accompanying her back down to the creek behind our house so that she could hunt for more mud-puppies.

mothersday21

She collected a bowl full, brought them home and then after watching them and googling them, let them go the next morning.

mothersday25

I just relaxed...

Did I mention that it was a gorgeous day? Lovely, in every way.

Thank you to my Mothers, who have loved and forgiven me much, and to my Grandmothers, who have watched over me, and now my own children, expectantly.

Blessings to all of my Mothering friends, as you nurture your own little baby birds. I thank you for your comradery and daily inspiration. May you enjoy this day.

Thank you to my darling Christopher for giving me our children, this gift of motherhood, and for working so hard that I may live daily with them, at home...

Thank you Lord, for this immense life, love and joy of Motherhood. Every single Mother that you have placed in my life has taught me something valuable.

love~ Beth

Stay, stay at home, my heart, and rest;
Home-keeping hearts are happiest,
For those that wander they know not where
Are full of trouble and full of care;
To stay at home is best.

Weary and homesick and distressed,
They wander east, they wander west,
And are baffled and beaten and blown about
By the winds of the wilderness of doubt;
To stay at home is best.

Then stay at home, my heart, and rest;
The bird is safest in its nest;
O'er all that flutter their wings and fly
A hawk is hovering in the sky;
To stay at home is best.

I'm not really feeling very talkative lately (maybe you've noticed?), but wanted to blog a bit of what's been going on around here lately anyways. Afterall, I did promise an update, didn't I? So, what have we been up to?

Remembering, Celebrating & Worshiping

This last Sunday night Chris, N, T and I enjoyed a wonderful Passover Seder dinner with our local Messianic congregation, Beth Shalom.

It was beautiful, and the kids' favorite part was the dancing (well, besides the eating!). We've been reading together about the first Passover from the book of Exodus, and some childrens' picture books, and also of Jesus's sharing this meal with His disciples before His deah, and then His resurrection. N and T watched one of N's favorite movies yesterday, Cecil B. De Mille's "The 10 Commandments". It has been a refreshing time of encouragement, remembrance and worship for me, and for all of us I think.

Also, Jenny has a lovely post here about Passover, and the Cup of Redemption, which is ceremonially taken after dinner, and which Jesus Himself shared with His disciples.

The third cup of wine is taken after the meal. It is the cup of redemption, which reminds us of the shed blood of the innocent Lamb which brought our redemption from Egypt. We see that Jesus took the third cup in Luke 22:20 and 1 Corinthians 11:25, "In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.'" This was not just any cup, it was the cup of redemption from slavery into freedom. This is our communion cup.

Riding

N and T started their horse riding lessons again last month. Their instructor takes a break during the winter every year. So, they're beginning their third year now of formal English riding instruction, and are becoming pretty good little riders, if I do say so myself. I think that T is becoming more and more horse-crazy, if that's possible. She spent this morning, making home-made molasses and bran horse treats for the pony she's riding, Baldrick, whom she "misses so much"... She had the idea and did a search for good "horse treat recipes" on her latest favorite site, a kid-friendly search engine. Then, she wrote it down and followed the recipe herself, turned out some great tasting (yes, we tried them), chewy horse treats for her pony. Well, it had been a whole day and a half since she saw him last! *sheesh* LOL

Tbaking.jpg

On Saturday T had her first horse show of this year, and she was so excited that she barely slept the night before. I know because she kept waking me up every hour with, "I'm so excited, I just can't sleep..." We had to get up at 4:30 a.m. to get her ready and to the barn to help load the ponies into the trailer. It was a really long day for her, well week really, since she spent most of Wed., Thurs., and Friday over at her riding instructor's house/barn with her lesson and then preparations for the show (shaving and bathing the pony, cleaning and conditioning tack, etc.). She's looking forward to her first year of showing, once a month, with cute little "King Baldrick".

Chris and I have just been so blessed to see how the Lord's provided a way for her to participate more actively in this sport which she loves so much, but would normally be out of our range financially. J, her instructor, asked me if she could show this year, because the academy that hosts these particular shows is giving her free classes/slots for one student and pony to show in each month (normally each class costs a certain amount which can range from $20+ per show, depending upon how many classes the student shows in, the average being at least three), since she already has so many students signed up to show. And she wants T to fill that complimentary spot. "Of course!", says I, what an unexpected blessing!! I think her teacher, J, is just as excited about it as we are too, which makes it so fun.

Demolition, Planning & Building

The past couple of weekends, Chris and N have been working hard salvaging oak wooden planks from a huge antique barn before it's to be destroyed by a developer that Chris knows, who gave him permission to take whatever he wants. Though it's a messy job and alot of work, this is has been a huge blessing and answer to prayer, since Chris has been specifically looking and asking around for salvageable barn wood to use for the various building projects he's been planning out... our new and improved (larger) chicken coop (which he's now working on, pics forthcoming), a big harvest-style dining room table, a headboard for our bed, and a bunk bed set for T (she's been wanting "rustic, horse-style" instead of the girlie white wicker trundle bed she has now (which I love btw, oh well, 'tis her room). He plans to plane the wood for some of the furniture pieces. It's amazing to me how finished and beautiful looking his handiwork is once he's finished. He has such an eye for detail, a true craftsman. I'm sure that N will learn a lot from Chris, who has had N working alongside him like a little man lately.

Playing, Resting, more Planning, Learning & Cleaning

So, Spring has sprung around here, and we're all absolutely loving it!! Once again, we have daylight until 8p.m., the windows are open and we don't need to heat nor cool the air at all, which is so nice, and the landscape is turning all green again too! The kids have proclaimed the weather as suitable for playing in the hose-water on the trampoline and running barefoot outside. They've been spending a lot more time down at the creek too, which Samson loves (nothing like a romp in the mud and water to make a dog's day). N has been bringing armloads of bionicles and GI Joe figures outside to play, building them little forts, etc. and T has been playing horses outside a lot, both alone, with me and with her kindred spirit friend, M. I've been playing at taking lots of pics of Spring blooms, but have yet to upload any of my pics.

Last month was a welcome reprieve from the months prior, since I had one less baby I was watching. It had been getting pretty stressful for me there for awhile, so the month long break was very timely. I'd been sleeping in until 8-8:30 most mornings, glorious, I tell ya! The mother had temporarily moved out of state with her daughter (the older of the two babies I've been watching for the last year), but has just recently returned again, and asked me to babysit for her again. I accepted, so my mornings are earlier again as well.

Now I have two crawling babies here, a 10 month old and a 14 month old, chasing each other, and me, around... crawling up my legs, reaching to be held and constantly getting into everything. It can be a bit much at times (I'm finding myself praying more), but the extra income is so nice, allowing us to spend some $$ on (hopefully) finishing the renovations on our old house here, without going into debt, and we're going to buy a new mattress for Chris and I (yay!!) -so it's well worth the extra work and inconvenience to me and our kids. And it's only for a few more months... We'd spent most of our tax return on paying off all of our credit card debt, and so now the only debt we have is our mortgage, and I'd like to keep it that way! :)

This is little E, the three yr. old we're keeping, brother to the 10 month old baby I just mentioned. He's a sweetie, and I feel badly that he and his little baby sister will probably be stuck in daycare soon. Their single Mom has recently put herself on a list for income-based daycare. So, I may lose them anytime, really. I plan to keep the other baby through the month of July, and then will take a couple of months off from baby-sitting to have our own little bean that's due in mid-August. After that, I'm going to just play it by ear as to whether or not I'll babysit anymore.

The kids and I went to a local homeschool co-op's visitors' day a couple of weeks ago, and really enjoyed it. I plan on enrolling both N and T in the weekly classes for each of their age groups next year, and they ARE. SO. EXCITED. This will be our first time to join a homeschool co-op. We've also been drawing out plans for our garden this summer, some of which we'll be planting pretty soon. It will be a simple garden this year, with N and T each having their own "little bit of earth" to garden and care for. T is growing herbs and helping me with a few of the veggies. N has some flowers and veggies picked out to grow. I'll share our gardening plans in greater detail a little later.

Schoolish type stuff has been happening around here lately too, though minimally. But we're happy with it. Reading (both independently and aloud to me), writing (daily copywork, and some written narrations here and there) and arithmetic of some sort are getting done most days, and I read aloud to them at least an hour almost every day, but not nearly as much as I'd hoped to before we'd started baby-sitting. So, much of what we'd planned to do this year will be pushed over to next year I'm afraid, but so goes it. And you know what? I am SO okay with that... we've had a wonderful year, full of challenges and life lessons that we never could have planned for, nor anticipated. We've lived and learned together, exactly what we were supposed to for this season.

I've been quite pleased with how well both N and T have progressed with their writing this year. T has written some stories, and writes in her journal almost daily, this of her own volition. She and N both are slowly working through the Writing Strands 3 book together (originally it was just for N, but then T insisted that she could and would do it with him), and lately have enjoyed writing letters to friends and family (their idea even). Their spelling has improved greatly, I think as a cumulative result of all their reading, copywork, spontaneous oral spelling quizzes that I give them (per their request, from the lists in their McGuffey readers-they love it!) and our sporadic work in our AVKO Sequential Spelling book (something else we really like and will continue with).

N and T have each recently completed a Developmental Mathematics book at their own levels, but have both decided that they very much prefer their Singapore math books to the Dev. Math books, so we've happily gone back to Singapore (with renewed vigor and appreciation on their part), and will continue on with that program, at our own pace. This week we're taking our Spring break, and so I'm not requiring anything academic from them, and yet today and yesterday they both wanted to play their Singapore math cd-rom, Vroot and Vroom, "just for the fun of it", and there they sat hurriedly scrawling out equations so they could find the answers and get through the mazes! So, math happens anyways. As does reading...

I walked in the dining room the other morning, to find N busily munching left-over pizza for breakfast, thoroughly engrossed in a library book... gotta love it! Also, below are some pics of their recently accomplished copywork. I recently invested in a couple of books of quotes and verses, compiled by Sandy Queen, for copywork, "The Thematic Copywork Lessons for Girls" and "The Thematic Copywork Lessons for Boys" books. They may also be used for dictation lessons, and are designed for children in grades 4-12, but has been working fine for T too, since she's a pretty advanced writer for her age. Though it seemed a bit pricey at first, this has turned out to be just the thing for us. Now that kids know exactly what they're to copy to each day, independently, it's actually happening every day, consistently... no scrambling for a worthy excerpt, or squabbling over its length being "tooooo long!" Each days work is already laid out, lessons numbered, nice and simple. N even exclaimed to me that he really likes his new copywork book (he really likes to know what's next, and this way can easily see what he has to accomplish). So, it's working for them (and me), and they're enjoying it, wonderful! After they complete these books, I plan to maybe compile my own copywork book for each of them, for a year at a time, since this system works so well. Or maybe they could just copy from one text for a term, year, whatever, with pre-determined portions already marked out/decided upon?

The copywork books are typed in a manuscript print, and N and T transpose each of their lessons into cursive (which they were already becoming proficient at when we started these books). N had asked if he could write his in print, rather than cursive, one day, "to take a break from cursive writing for awhile". So, I let him, and it was so funny that as he began, he was surprised to find that he was having a hard time keeping from writing words in cursive (he's gotten so used to it), and even commented on how much slower-going it seemed, to write in print. So, he ended up choosing to start over and write that lesson in cursive afterall!

Here's some of N's recent copywork:

With all of this lovely weather, and plans for a very busy summer ahead for us, I've been feeling the need to do some serious Spring cleaning. So, I decreed this week Spring break for the kids, and for the rest of this week, that is what I shall be about- cleaning! This will also allow me to get used to having both of the babies again, see what sort of routine we all work out together, before trying to do too much more with N and T seperately. I did recently buy the Beautiful Feet Geography Through Literature guide and maps to go along with our Holling C. Holling books (we already had), hoping to get the most out of these beautiful and informative books. I'd really like to get started on that soon, but am wondering now if it's even feasible, or will have to wait until after our baby girl's born (and thus we're not baby-sitting the other three anymore)?

My brother and sister-in-law will be visiting us next week with their four kids (which they unschool). Michael has an interview for a teaching position at a college campus about an hour and a half away from us, and so may even be moving here this summer, if he decides to take this job. He's graduating in May with his PhD in Physics, just has to complete his thesis. I'm so proud of him and Sharon (he's been in school in a long time, and Sharon's done alot to help him make it work!), and so looking forward to seeing them - it's been a couple of years!

So, I think that this should bring you pretty much up to date with us, and I'm starting to get a stiff neck from sitting here for so long, so I'm signing off for now! Happy Spring to ya~

is 11!! Wow, how it seems like yesterday that he was such a wee little man (and all the Moms nod their heads knowingly)... Chris and I are so very thankful for our N, our unexpected and blessed "gift from God". He is such a joy to know and to be with. I am doing my best to treasure the years, the months, days, each and every moment I have with him before he makes his own way in the world.

I've just today asked N what he's learned this year, and what bit of 11 yo wisdom he'd like to share with the world. This is what he says,

I've learned to become a better judge of myself and my actions. I've learned to not take nature for granted, just sitting in a lounge chair in front of the t.v., and to thank God that we have trees and birds and that we can make something of ourselves with God's help. I think that one of the most beautiful sights that I've ever seen is of a red cardinal on a tree or bush, with white snow in the background. It's brightness is beautiful.

Yep, that's my little naturalist, growing into a thoughtful young man (and even acknowledging that it's with God's help). Lord, I thank YOU for drawing his heart unto yourself.

Nathan~ 11 years old!

Our eldest, our little man of whom we're so proud...*sentimental mommy sighs* Here he sits the evening of his little b-day bash, last Saturday, before his traditionally requested Oreo Mint Ice-Cream cake, and dark chocolate cupcakes. He'd invited a few of his buddies over for the day. They played outside and rode the go-kart with Chris. Then we had pizza, watched The Borrowers and then they went ouside and played some more before cake time, after which they played some inside games before the party ended. N said that it was a great day.

the gift

T was so excited to get her Bubby a gift with her own money (her idea). She made/decorated the paper bag wrapping paper herself (which you can barely see). She woke me up at around 5 a.m. asking if she could give Bubby his gift now, but I told her no, she had to wait for me to get up so that I could take a picture. And I went back to sleep, as she waited with such anticipation.

Nathan opening his gift

It's a really fancy ball-point pen, with a motorized neon-lit-up fan on the end, and he loves it!

Nathan is 11!

And I just love this picture... can't you just feel the love!

Well, hello world!! Yes, I am still here, alive and well, though I've fallen off the face of the blogosphere for the last month+. As I'd mentioned in a prior post, I truly just seem to have lost all blogging ambition of late. I think this is partly due to the fact that when I'm not busy with baby-sitting these extra littles around here, I'm feeling the urgency of making up for lost time with my own precious children, husband and other stuff... that, or I'm finding myself just tired and not in the mood for sitting at the 'puter. So I've been enjoying reading more with the kids, novels I've had on my own list for some time (just finished Jane Eyre - loved it!, now starting Pride & Prejudice) in my free time, or vegging out in front of the boob tube from time to time.

Yet, these last few days I've actually been trying to post an update from our abode here, for my faithful friends and family that still happen to stop in here every now and then to check on us. I must apologize for not being better about keeping up with my emails either... I promise that I haven't forgotten you (those who I need to write back yet, you know who yous are). But I haven't even managed to get much further than the title of this silly post any one of the three times that I've actually sat down here to write it. Last night I'd started (opened my compose page and written my title in, knew what I wanted to write) but then realized that it was time to read aloud to N and T before they went to sleep (we've just started C.S. Lewis's The Silver Chair), and Chris wanted to use the 'puter to do our taxes anyways, so here I sit this morning instead.

***time passes*tending kids***

Now it's after noon, and I'm sitting here, yet again, attempting this post over my lunch of home-made chicken noodle soup and crackers with cheese... mm-hmmm.... One baby and the 3yo are now sleeping, the other babe is in the high-chair with some cheerios and a bottle to occupy her and N and T are outside jumping on the trampoline and enjoying the lovely sunny (though cold, well 37 deg., which is cold to us wimpy Southerners, ok!?) day we're having here today.

So, we're in a season of birthdays around here, with Chris's b-day being last month, and now -February is the month of both N and T's birthdays, and therefore always much anticipated. This year Chris had the grand idea of putting his b-day $ received from family together with all the b-day $'s the kids receive and buying a used go-kart (yes, we had to throw in some extra $ too, they don't get that much for b-days, though the grandparents are quite generous (((thank-you)))! So that's the latest much ado around here, Chris had to change the oil on it, gave it a bit of a tune-up and I think they're putting new tires on it too (pictures of go-kart mayhem forthcoming asap). They've been having a blast riding it (yes, Chris too!) and so far Chris isn't letting them drive it alone as it goes very fast, and the steering is VERY sensitive on it. It's a two seater, with roll-bars.

Last Saturday, our little girl, our baby (for yet awhile longer anyways) turned 8 years old!

For her b-day, T chose to eat out at the Olive Garden (nice choice girl!). It's become a family tradition of ours that we go out to eat for b-days, and the person we're celebrating gets to, of course, choose the place. T also chose to have a dear friend that she knows from church and horse-back riding (they have the same instructor, and so have shared alot of riding times together and two summer horse camps) over to spend the night and a couple of days with us. Her little friend is an absolute delight, and they both, being home-schooled and horse-crazy, have lots in common. They are both collecting Breyer horses, and spend hours playing endlessly elaborate "horse games" together, whether at our house, or at M's.

They're both quite creative, and have little horse blankets they've hand-sewn, all sorts of various legs wraps made from material and string, halters and bridles they've designed from twine, shoulder pads for saddle pads, grains and grasses made from sculpey clay and paper, horse vitamins (glitter, sand and herb mixtures they've concocted), etc., etc. which all gets spread across the floor as they play. M's Mom told me that she'd been packing for a week to come over here, and she'd managed to fit all of her Breyers and horse stuff into a suitcase to play with once here. She also gave T a new Breyer horse for her b-day! Yeah, I think they're two peas in a pod alright. ;)

On Sunday, we took the girls to a local flea-market, and it was a hoot to see how they oohed and awed over everything, so thoroughly enjoying each other's company "Oooooh, M look at this!" or "Wow, T, look at all of the glass and mirror statues, let's go see them!" After we had T's cake and ice-cream celebration, Chris took N to spend the night with a buddy of his (whom he also takes riding lessons with), whose Mom took them on an early morning trail ride for a couple of hours. He came home with a very sore back, but an exciting story to tell of how he'd galloped Frosty down the path, through the woods.

In only 10 days N, our firstborn, will turn 11yo. *sighs* Wow... where have the days all gone? And yet, when I look at him, and see what a considerate and sweet young man he's growing into, I am so thankful to not only know him, but to call him my own. For his b-day, he's chosen to have a pizza/go-kart party with a few of his buddies in a couple of Saturdays. I'll make the Oreo ice-cream cake (always his fave) and Chris will be in charge of the rest. I'm thinking it will be a bonafied little mens' day of fun. Chris said they may even do some target-shooting. So, that's the b-day excitement around here lately.

And now for our other biggest news lately. I have been feeling the bubbly and butterfly-wing fluttering of our little bean for over a week now! One morning at about 4 a.m. I was even awakened by three wee little kicks. Now I'm feeling him/her move around throughout the day, every day, feisty little thing for only being 3.5-4" long! It's absolutely amazing, I'm so lovin' it. We still are clueless when it comes to names, though we do have a lengthy list of ideas, and N usually thinks of a new possibility every day. :) Ooops, I just felt a little flutter just now, and again!

Some dear friends of ours from FL, Barbara and her hubby, Russ, just sent us a big 'ol care package that came in the mail today, with goodies and outfits for everyone, and some VERY nice maternity clothes for me. Thank you Barbara!! They'll be coming for a visit this summer, in early August, just before the baby's born. And then Chris's Mom plans to come down for a couple of weeks after the baby's born, and my sister's mentioned coming as well. Chris says that his Dad may be coming too, so it will be a busy summer for us! Meanwhile Chris has just written up a lengthy honey-do list for both of us of all the things we need to get done around the house, hopefully most of it before all of our company arrives! Is it possible? I dunno... but we can try.

And speaking of summer-time... I can hardly wait for Spring to arrive, with warm and sunny days and blooms all around. I've been plagued with a bit of cabin-fever here lately, and am SO ready for warmer weather, so we can sit on a spread blanket, soaking in the sunshine with a sketchbook or good reader in hand. It's been kinda hard to get outside much with a 9 month old and 13 month old baby in tow, cold as it's been, esp. not having a stroller, ya know? I'm wondering how we're going to manage it amply when the weather starts to warm up, and if I'll even still continue to have all three of these littles throughout the Spring for that matter. Some circumstances have come up here lately that may change our current baby-sitting situation a bit earlier than we'd expected, but truly, only time will tell for sure. So... I wait, wonder and continue to trust the Lord to provide for us all that we need.

T is all excited about her AWANA Bible Quizzing competition tomorrow. She was invited to be on the girls' team for Book 1, and this is her first year participating in the quizzing. So, she's been brushing up on all the Scripture verses she's memorized for AWANAs thusfar this year (a whole deck of cards worth!). I'm sure it will be alot of fun, and I think she's just as excited about riding the bus to Elizabethton with the rest of the kids as she is about having "her own buzzer", which she gets to "beep" whenever she knows the answer. Chris, N, the baby that I'll be babysitting tomorrow (which is unusual, for me to have one on a Sat.), and I will drive over in our car and meet her there.

So, that's pretty much the latest here... I'm still feeling yucky alot (like nauseas), but not nearly so much as before, and I'm not as tired all the time as I generally have been these last couple of months. So, this is GOOD. N and T were able to go with me to my last ultrasound a couple of weeks ago, and saw the baby, who was jumping and moving all around, so that was quite thrilling for them. That reminds me, I have yet to tell you how great my OBgyn is, I love her! Only thing is, she shares call with two other docs in her practice, who I'll be just as likely to have deliver our baby. But from what I hear from friends who've had the other two docs, they're well-liked. T delights in blowing raspberries on my belly, or telling it "thank you for helping God make the baby", and saying "good-night" to the baby. She and N both poke my belly at least once a day, checking for belly/bump growth as well.

And speaking of belly growth, I'm off to make these cookies! Don't they just look delish?!
