voices of my people~
ByI just found a cd that an uncle of mine had given me last year, full of old pics and slides from long, long ago. There were a few of my mom, one of my dad, and a couple of my sis and I when we were really young, as well as many other family members who have now either passed away, or were very much younger (from like 30 years ago or so). I uploaded two of my sis and I and posted them here, with my "where I'm from" post, so if you'd like to see what I looked like at the tender age of 3-4yo, there ya go.*smiles* Here's some others that I just love ~ the first two I thought were just classic...
Nor need we power or splendor, wide hall or lordly dome;
The good, the true, the tender -- these form the wealth of home.

The happiest moments of my life have been the few which I have passed at home in the bosom of my family.~Thomas Jefferson

I swear my grandma had that same dress.
I did the “where I’m from” in my regular blog. My mom really liked it.
Hi Andrea~
Thank you for stopping in my place, and for letting me know that you did this. I loved reading your reflections! Isn’t it a great writing/remembering exercise?
My dh even commented to me (about my “where I’m from” post) that “Your last blog entry was really good.” I was delighted just to know that he’s actually reading what I’m writing every now and then! *lol* And he NEVER says something like that unless he’s really impressed. teeehehehe
You write beautifully.
What an absolutely beautiful post
I love all the memories.
What lovely homey pictures- in that picture your mom looked to be about the same age as my oldest sister. (born in the 1940s?) My parents, uncles and aunts loved to sit on the verandah and talk – I used to be so, so bored and couldn’t wait to escape with my cousins.
Thanks Steph! I’ve enjoyed the memories too, and now I’ve been inspired to scan as many old pics as I can onto my ‘puter… a daunting thought… for another day!;)
Thanks Islad Sparrow. Yeah, the top 3 pics are from before I ever even was. My Mom was born in the 50’s and graduated from highschool in 1969, so she’d actually be younger than your sis.
Oh, and Island Sparrow,
Isn’t it funny how bored to death we used to be, but how NOW we’d give alot to be able to sit in with those old-timers, and glean some living history… *sighs*
I love the house pic…It reminds me of my grandma’s house..different place but oh so much the same. It had a porch swing on one end and the glider with the oilcloth cushions on the other end. I can hear the laughter…
Hi Dawn~
Yeah, I can hear it too…;)
These are priceless…I especially love the ones of your relatives on the front porch….reminds me of childhood days of family loved ones enjoying one another. I love that metal roofed house too….thanks for sharing!
You’re right Bath – I wish I had hung around to hear a few of those old stories but I wanted to play Hide n Seek.
My sister graduated from High school in 1966 – born in ‘47. My daughter (15) thinks those dresses – with the belted waist and full skirts – are so cool! next thing she and her friends will be wearing the beehive hairstyles
I love the pictures, Beth! The top one especially makes me long for something similar.
And I love that Kate Price CD – she has such a beautiful style and voice!
